Phase-Root Locus and Relative Stability - IEEE Control Systems Magazine

چکیده

n this article, a new graphical tool called the phase-root locus is introduced. It is the dual of the conventional root locus, and indicates the motion of closed-loop poles in the s-plane as phase is added to the open-loop transfer function. The root locudphase-root locus plots will be shown to facilitate destabilization diagnosis, which may help determine what part of an unstable physical system requires modification. For example, destabilization may be caused by one closedloop pole due to a phase-shift at one value of system gain, and by a different pole due to gain variations at another value of system gain. The phase-root locus also allows relative stability information, including phase margin, to be accessed from the s-plane. Thus the s-plane can now be used for robustness analysis/design as well as transient analysis/design. The phase-root locus shows promise as a tool in compensator design as well as in the teaching of classical control theory.

Complementary root locus revisited

In this paper, a new finding related to the well-known root locus method that is covered in the introductory control systems books is presented. It is shown that some of the complementary root locus rules and properties are not valid for systems with loop transfer functions that are not strictly proper. New definitions for root locus branches have been presented which divide them into branches ...

Multivariable Stability of Force-Reflecting Teleoperation: Structures of Finite and Infinite Zeros

This paper presents a stability analysis of force-position teleoperation under general end-effector contact. The analysis is based on the finite and infinite zero structure of the multivariable root-locus resulting from modulation of the environment stiffness. The starting point is an analysis of the stability of robot force control, motivated by the observation that the human-operator in a for...

Phase margin revisited: phase-root locus, bode plots, and phase shifters

In learning undergraduate controls, one of the most abstract and confusing concepts is that of phase margin (PM). One frustration is the difficulty in conceptualizing what physical process could produce the pure phase shift referred to in the definition of PM. Another frustration occurs when simple second-order formulas given for PM do not work in practice. Finally, when resonances occur, there...

Stability of networked control systems - IEEE Control Systems Magazine

IEEE Control Systems Magazine February 2001 Feedback control systems wherein the control loops are closed through a real-time network are called networked control systems (NCSs) [1]-[4]. The defining feature of an NCS is that information (reference input, plant output, control input, etc.) is exchanged using a network among control system components (sensors, controller, actuators, etc.). Fig. ...

A Feedback Control Approach for Guaranteeing Relative Delays in Web Servers

This paper presents the design, implementation, and evaluation of an adaptive architecture to provide relative delay guarantees for different service classes on web servers under H7TP 1.1. The first contribution of this paper is the architecture based on a feedback control loop that enforces desired relative delays among classes via dynamic connection scheduling arid process reallocation. The s...
